I have been a fan of Frida Giannini, Creative Director of Gucci since she started her tenure under Tom Ford in 2004 when she designed the men’s and women’s accessories line for the house. After Ford’s departure in 2004 and after the failed success under Alessandra Facchinetti, she was appointed Creative Director of the entire brand in 2006. Giannini, is inspired by music and her collections allow us to travel through time and faraway places.
This season’s Fall 2013 menswear collection is no surprise a hit out of the fashion park. Giannini worked the house’s equestrian tradition through bold patterns in tweeds, herringbone, houndstooths, and flannels in hues of teal, grey, red, olive, gold, white, and black. It is was one of the collections that reminded me of the Gossip Girl character, Chuck Bass played by Ed Westwick. Bass in the first season was known for pushing the fashion envelope wearing looks that only an Upper East Sider could get away with including patterned suits, bow ties, and scarves in variously colors, styles, and lengths. Let’s just say if Chuck Bass were a real person, he would call Frida Giannini when he needed a wardrobe upgrade.
One of my favorite things about Gucci this season is it’s classic military tailoring. This collection is one of the most luxurious collections I have seen from Gucci. I loved the colors, the fabrics, and not to mention those amazing riding coats, trench coats and peacoats! This is the brand to look to for the future trends at all price points! Love you Frida Giannini!
