Dsquared2 is one of my favorite fashion shows to see during Milan Fashion Week because there is an energy that erupts from the models, photographers, and the designer duo Dean and Dan Caten. The Caten Brothers are identical twins that has been rocking the fashion scene for almost 20 years. Their big break came in 2000, when Madonna chose to wear their mud stained jeans in her “Tell Me” music video (the one where she’s dressed like a cowgirl in the blue flannel shirt, hat and messy blonde curls). Their Canadian roots run through their designs and have inspired some of their previous collections but during their last ready to wear collection they designed a Biker Chic collection inspired by Super Genius Photographer, Peter Lindbergh‘s 1991 American Vogue “Wild At Heart” photoshoot. The 1990s took everything to the extreme: hair, nails, makeup, eyebrows.

The Caten Brothers designed mini skirts, dresses, vests, jackets in leather, poplin dresses, tight strapless dresses in white, pink, and red. Black bikinis, denim hot pants, shorts, skirts, jeans, and jackets. One of my favorite looks was a classic tailored white shirt and black blazer with a pair of jeans. It also wouldn’t be Dsquared fashion show without the showing off the designers skills at tailoring evening dresses in various lengths with darting and corset details. Not to mention gold chains and pearls dripping off the girls in bracelets, necklaces, belts, brooches that (perhaps a nod to Chanel) in all sizes and lengths on every model that gave us a memory of the 1990s Supermodels that Ruled the catwalks: Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Stephanie Seymour, Christy Turlington, and so many other top models of the day. Not mention biker leather hats with pearl and gold details giving a strong look that empowers women to feel sexy.
Hair was designed by top hair stylist Sam McKnight who created a simple and sexy poker straight hair style. The look had a modern flare to the original 1990s supermodel hair. Makeup artist, Charlotte Tilbury created a look that was inspired by “Peter Lindbergh, The Nineties, and Linda Evangelista” with an almond smokey eye, arched brow, contoured skin, MAC Spice Lip Liner and Fleshpot Beige lips with powder. The look was so powerful and striking. Both McKnight and Tibury have worked with Dsquared for many seasons. (And to be honest it looked healthier than previous looks on other runways withbleached out eyebrows, pale skin, and ghostly shiny skin).
